Freemasonry stands as one of the most ancient social and charitable institutions globally, with its origins tracing back to the customs of medieval stonemasons responsible for constructing our cathedrals and fortresses. Integral to the Freemasons are four core values that serve as guiding lights on their life journey: Integrity, Friendship, Respect, and Service. In the current landscape of unpredictability, these principles resonate as powerfully as ever in the annals of the organisation's past.
With a vibrant community of 175,000 Freemasons from all walks of life, religions and race, spanning over 7,000 Lodges. Every brother is an equal regardless to background.
Every Freemason goes through the same journey of 3 degrees to become a Master Mason, this bonds us as brothers and no matter where or when you meet another Freemason, there is always an indescribable bond amongst brothers. Then there is always the next step in the story, The Holy Royal Arch.
Masonry doesn't end at the 3 degrees, there are around 30 other recognised degrees in Freemasonry which most go on to earn some of. There are also special interest lodges where brethren come together for the love of Masonry and another, be it food, cars, rugby, or work.
In 1717, a group of visionaries gathered at the Goose and Gridiron Pub in London, laying the foundation for what would become the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE). Today, UGLE is the governing body for a vibrant global community of 175,000 Freemasons, spanning over 7,000 Lodges. We welcome men of all ages, backgrounds, and beliefs, with dedicated University Scheme Lodges to support student members.
